An Elegant Modern Restaurant – O Gayot

Hi everyone,

I have just returned from a camping trip around France which I took as a valuable opportunity to have a look at some French interior design and architecture… but obviously I was taking the opportunity to eat a lot of food as well because interior design and food are two of my favourite things.

This is another post of many from my French adventure. This is Hotel O Gayot in the beautiful town of Bagnoles de l’Orne where we went for a lovely evening meal – the best steak that we have ever had. Above is a photograph of the exterior and the interior photographs follow below.

The interior of the restaurant takes quite a modern approach to interior design. Although the walls, floor and rug could be seen as quite traditional, the other elements are quite modern with bright bursts of red and blue as accents throughout the restaurant interior. One of my favourite modern elements is the modern white and red mural that you can see above on the left and in the image below as it adds something very fresh and modern to the interior. Another of my favourite elements is the bar design as it looks very modern, is lit very well and I love the effect of the materials that have been used for the bar.

The chandeliers, lighting of the bar and restaurant, the table setting, materials used and the use of minimal yet bright colour bring a level of elegance and sophistication to the restaurant that really complements the high quality food that is served. The thing that I would change if I were the interior designer for the restaurant is that I would make the walls a lot lighter maybe white or just off white to really make everything stand out more and I think that would bring further luxury to the dining experience.

There are many more posts showing interior design from my visit to France and there will be a few more to come, so please keep a look out. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area and we hope to go back just for the amazing food.

Where was the best food that you have ever had and what was the interior design like?
