This was the winning entry for the CityLIFE challenge competition.
I find this very interesting because the design is a more modern version of the metabolic city which was inspired by metabolism. It is almost the futuristic metabolic city that would not necessarily exist yet. It reminds me of something from a movie, in particular Blade Runner.
It appears as if it has the potential to be a multi-functional environment. This has the potential to be a living environment with shops, bars, restaurants etc.
The designer has thought in detail about almost every aspect of the design including people, ergonomics, social interaction, right down to looking at the weather and how it effects the environment.
I am currently working on a Metabolism assignment using the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, Japan. One of my initial ideas for the space was to turn it into something more futuristic (a futuristic social and retail hub) as it looks run down from the 1970′s. And I wanted to consider the future of living and the city environments appearance in the future. Therefore, I thought that this would be a great precedent for my work.
