Today I visited Oakway Academy School and spoke to a teacher there to do some additional research for the culture tower board game which I am aiming initially at KS2 students. Whilst discussing the game with the teacher, we got into a conversation about SMSC and how:
Every state-funded school in the UK must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which:
- promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society and
- prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life
“All schools should make provision for personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), drawing on good practice.”
(SMSC and Department of Education)
The teacher believed that the game could tie in very well with the compulsory SMSC outcomes within the national curriculum framework.
