Genesis 11:1-9

“Now the whole world had one language and the same words.” (Book of Genesis)

The Tower of Babel is said to be a mythological structure recorded in the first book of Genesis and is meant to be the origin of language. According to the book, a united humanity spoke a single language migrated Eastward to the of Shinar where they agreed to build a city and a tower tall enough to reach heaven.

On seeing this, God thought their actions to be disrespectful and confounded their speech so that they could no longer understand each other and scattered them around the entire world.

“And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.” (Book of Genesis)

How does this Link to my Project?

This is a precedent for me for my project. If people came together before, all speaking one language and collaborated to build a tower – people can come together once again to play the board game that I have designed – collaboratively building a tower of cards in the centre of the board which will be decorated with patterns from culture all over the world with questions relating to cultures all over the world. Therefore, the cards will form a cultural tower which will build visual cultural connections and cultivate respect.
