Triwa – Mode:lina Architekci (Precedent for the Urban Room)

This is the pop up store for the Swedish watch brand Triwa. The pop up shop has been build by the Polish design studio Mode:lina Architekci. It is located in Poznan Plaza shopping centre in Poznan, Poland.

It is constructed almost completely from cardboard with some cheaper wood, mainly consisting of cardboard tubes as it can be assembled quickly using low cost materials. The cardboard tubes make the shape of a tank where shop assistants can stand inside and sell watches to passing customers.

The construction features thick display panels of chipboard and is all held together using brightly coloured ratchet straps. The cardboard tubes form a supporting structure for all of the displays made from OSB wood panels.

The major considerations for this design were; creating a space using renewable materials, the construction costs to be minimal and the design to create global awareness of the watch brand.

The Precedent

I chose this as a precedent because again it uses tubes to create a structure which I will be doing in my Urban Room design, but in a slightly different way. I also like how bright colour was introduced to the design as I am planning on selecting one bright colour for my Urban Room. At this stage I am considering lime green to bring a “green” element to the design combined with some sustainable materials that I hope to use.
